The organization

The Long Island Horticultural Society is a non-profit organization that helps people learn about gardening. Meetings are held about nine times per year, on Sunday afternoons in the winter and Wednesday evenings in spring and fall (no meetings during the summer). At each meeting a knowledgeable speaker presents a program on some topic of interest to gardeners. There is also an education presentation prior to the main speaker. Topics for both have included:

    Monthly Meetings

    Each meeting also features a Plant Competition, a Raffle, and often, a small plant sale. It always has many friendly people who want to share their gardening experiences. The meetings are held at Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay, Long Island.

    EASTBOUND(From NYC, Queens, Western Nassau)
    LI Expwy. To Exit 39 North(Glen Cove Rd.)
    North on Glen Cove Rd. to 25A
    Turn Left onto Wolver Hollow Rd.
    (Police booth on corner)
    At end, turn right onChicken Valley Rd.
    Right turn onto Planting Fields Rd
    Entrance to Arb. About 1 mile on Right

    WESTBOUND (From Suffolk or E. Nassau)
    LI Expwy. To Exit 41N (Rt 106/107)
    North on Rt 106 to Route 25A
    Left turn onto Route 25A
    First Right Turn onto Mill River Rd.
    Go North about 2 miles, then left onto Glen Cove Road
    Left turn onto Planting Fields Rd.
    Left turn into Arboretum entrance

    Meeting Details

    Meetings are held in the Burns Horticultural Center at Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay. Most meetings also feature an education program beginning one hour before the times stated above. Admission for non-members is $5, payable at the door. Everyone is welcome.
